Knysna has achieved a mythical and permanent place in South African literature through the works of writer Dalene Matthee, who has found inspiration for numerous novels in the heart of the Knysna forest. ‘Pink Happiness’ is close to shops, restaurants, golf courses, horse riding, canoeing, sailing, boat tours, sunset cruises and unspoilt beaches. Head off to the Knysna Heads with an oysterbed tour, where they throw anchor, crack open a drink, and relax before heading off to the oyster beds. Hike through the millwood forest or along the beach, fish for bass in Groenvlei lake or try your luck with surf angling. Distance to Cape Town (500km), George, (50km) and Port Elizabeth (260km). Other outdoor recreation activities are available in the forest areas such as day walks, hiking trails, scenic forest picnic sites, cycle routes and forest drives.
